Orleans is one of Ottawa’s fastest growing suburban districts. It is located in the eastern part of the city along the Ottawa River, about 16 km from downtown Ottawa. Orleans real estate is a great mix, including condos, townhomes and single family residences.

Many new business areas along Innes Road between Tenth Line Road and Mer Bleue Road and in the vicinity of Trim Road on the eastern end have also been built recently. These serve to diversify the commercial districts of the community. The population and business growth also forced the improvement of Innes Road from a two-lane to a four-lane road in 2005.

OC Transpo offers extensive service to the area. Routes 135, 136, 607, 20, 22, 27, 30, 36, 130, and 835 service the area with conveniently placed stops.

Orleans is home to many parks and nature trails. Along the Ottawa River in the north-east of Orleans, is the parkland of Petrie Island. The parkland is located on several small islands connected by Trim Road. Petrie Island is home to turtles in some of its sheltered lagoons and has a nature centre for learning more about the local environment. One section of Petrie Island has several homes, but the area is mainly parkland. There is a marina with canoe and kayak rentals.

In addition to the natural beauty which abounds in the area there is also a large movie theatre on Innes Road, Place d’Orléans shopping centre with over 175 stores, a YMCA (with a swimming pool),many big box stores along Innes Road, multiple recreation centres and gyms as well as an indoor sports dome for soccer and other sports during the winter. The steady growth of recreation opportunities has also increased the prominence of Orleans real estate in the city of Ottawa.

Orleans Neighborhoods

 

Convent Glen North/South

Located along Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard and Highway 174 north of St Joseph Boulevard. This community features easy access to the Ottawa River as well as local shopping. There is a substantial amount of park space surrounding this neighborhood, mainly Hiawatha Park, Terry Fox Participark, Mystery Park, Bilberry Park, Jeanne D’Arc Park and the hiking, skiing and cycling trails found along the Ottawa River. The Bob MacQuarrie Recreation Complex is also located here. Convent Glen real estate features a wide mix of housing types with apartment and townhome condos as well as single family and freehold attached homes.

Chapel Hill North/South

There are two sections to Chapel Hill, with Innes road acting as the dividing line. It features older areas with single family homes for sale but is growing rapidly with several new home developments. Well known as one of Ottawa’s natural treasures, many call it the “Enchanting Woodland Community” since it was masterly planned amidst breathtaking woodlands, a ravine, and extensive parkland. The west side of the community is home to the beautiful Greens’ Greek Conservation area, complete with nature trails and plenty of open park space. Chapel Hill real estate is generally in high demand and homes do not generally sit on the market too long.

Chateauneuf

The area is bounded by Innes Road on the south. The south eastern border lies along Jeanne D’Arc Boulevard and Orleans Boulevard borders the northwest. With plenty to offer in the way of real estate, Chateauneuf provides you with all kinds of opportunities for houses, apartments and condominiums, although the majority of Chateauneuf real estate is single family. The area is highlighted by its proximity to many big box stores along Innes Road making it rather convenient for those who like things close by.

Orleans Wood

Located north of Highway 174 toward the Ottawa River and west of Champlain Street. Orleans Wood is another area within walking distance to Place D’Orleans. Orleans Wood real estate features a mix of housing and great access to trails along the river.

Chatelaine Village

Located north of Highway 174 toward the Ottawa River and East of Champlain Ave. Many homes for sale in the community are within walking distance to Place D’Orleans shopping centre. Queenswood Heights

Older single family homes on large lots as well as townhomes make up the majority of Queenswood Heights real estate. The community is located south of St. Joseph Boulevard, west of Tenth Line and east of the Bilberry Creek Ravine. This is the oldest community in Orleans. Many home buyers are drawn here due to the country feel of many of the lots and the well established trails throughout the lengthy Ravine.

Fallingbrook

Fallingbrook is a warm community full of life and character. Located south of St. Joseph Boulevard, west of Trim Road, north of Innes Road and east of Tenth Line Road. This area features the Ray Friel Recreation Complex, ample local shopping and many great parks. Homes for sale in Fallingbrook homes for sale consist of a large mix of town and single family with some condos spread along Tenth Line. There are several new pubs in the area as well.
OC Transpo bus lines make regular visits to the area. With access to bus routes 20, 22, 27, 30, 36, 130, 135, 136 and more, you can be sure that Ottawa’s public transit system can provide you with what you need.

Avalon

A newer Minto built community located south of Innes Road, west of Portobello Boulevard and east of Tenth Line Road. Avalon real estate features a mix of condos, single family and townhomes. A large pond in the centre of the development is a nice feature for outdoor enthusiasts. After initial construction the developer had to address some issues related to homes being built over swampland. Most issues have been dealt with and the community features well over 2000 homes.
