Britannia is a neighborhood on the Ottawa River across from Aylmer.
It was once a small cottage town but rapid growth during the 20th century saw modern houses built in between cottages. Popular attractions in the area for residents and visitors alike are a movie theatre complex, a nature trail (Mud Lake), and Britannia Beach.
The area has a mix of low and high income housing. The lower income areas of Britannia are closer to Richmond Road. The Penny projects are one area that has gained a negative reputation over the years due to crime and gang activity. The more affluent areas are located near the yacht club on Britannia Road.
