Riverside South has approximately 3,200 households, the first of which were built in 1996. In the early 1990s the area was primarily vacant with few houses and some farms. Over the last few years there has been extensive real estate development. It is projected to be one of the fastest growing communities in Ottawa through 2011.
Riverside South is located just southwest of the Macdonald-Cartier Airport. The main boundaries to the area are Lietrim Road to the north and the Rideau River to the west. The area is expected to have a population of over 50,000 in the not so distant future. Real Estate in the area is very similar to communities popping up in Orleans, Barrhaven and Kanata, however there are some very upscale enclaves within the boundaries of Riverside South featuring estates on large lots.
The Rideauview Community Centre offers various programs, day camps, youth drop-ins and activities. The area is also home to a large variety of parks, many of which are linked through water pathways to the Rideau River. As such, they fall under the jurisdiction of the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority.
